Which Method of Learning is Right For You?
Choosing between methods of learning how to play the guitar can be a daunting decision for some people. After all, you know what is available to you, but you're not quite sure how to go about making that decision. It's going to come down to how you learn best, the time you have to spend, what your budget is, and other factors.
First, let's consider how you learn best. Some people need a one-on-one teacher telling them what to do every step of the way. Other people prefer to learn in a group setting so they can learn with other students as well. Still others like to learn on their own time, because they want to be able to maintain control of their own instruction.
Also, think about how much time you have to spend on your guitar education. Some are able to set aside two or three weekly sessions with their guitar instructor. For others, this is simply not possible with hectic schedules. When you learn on your own time, you're able to learn whenever you want to.
That doesn't mean you should learn and practice only when the mood strikes! It needs to become a priority, or it sadly won't get done. You will become one of those who had good intentions of learning to play starting out, only to leave their guitar sitting on its own in a corner somewhere!
In addition to the time you have to spend, you also have to consider your budget. While it can be incredibly helpful, having a one-on-one teacher can be quite expensive, especially if you want to learn more than once a week. Books are probably the cheapest option, but they are not very comprehensive. A good middle-of-the-road solution is an online course.
These often contain many different components that allow you to learn on your own time, and at your own pace. They are usually arranged in lessons of increasing difficulty so you can choose to learn from the one you are on, whenever you want to.
What's really neat is that the owners of these courses tend to add bonuses and more information as time goes on, making it well worth the asking price in most cases.
Some people might want to consider a combination of these, or just one of them. Think about these different factors when you're trying to choose between the different methods. Above all, make sure you take action quickly because the sooner you do, the sooner you become a master of the guitar!
